How to Clean and Care for Your Board

Caring for your Board
It is very important to keep your board clean, dry and oiled.
The first thing you should do when you purchase any board made from wood is to oil as follows:
ONCE A DAY FOR A WEEK
ONCE A WEEK FOR A MONTH
AT LEAST ONCE A MONTH FOR LIFE
OR MORE AS NEEDED
We recommend Clapham's Beeswax Salad Bowl Finish or Mineral Oil or Pure Walnut Oil.
Heavy Mineral Oil found in any drug store is the least expensive oil to use on your board.
DO NOT use vegetable oils on your board.  These oils will go rancid.
Wash your board after each use and dry well.
To sanitize/disinfect your cutting boards wipe with either a weak bleach solution - one teaspoon of bleach per quart of water or keep a spray bottle with a mixture of  vinegar and water.    Rinse and dry well. If your board has picked up odours (onions, garlic etc..) use the cut side of a lemon as a scrub brush and rub the board with salt or baking soda. Wash, rinse and dry well and oil again.
Never put your board in a dishwasher or leave it soaking in water. Also stand your board up to finish air drying.  Never lay on a wet counter.
Moisture will cause any board made from wood to warp.
Cut marks do not mar the beauty of your board, but if you want to return your board to its original finish, lightly sand out the scratches and re-oil.
